What comes around goes around, and more and more great deals are circulating in the peak travel season. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following Travel with Val report.
Last spring I told you about a package at a new Costa Rican resort that was so good that it earned a spot in the D'Elia's Deal Hall of Fame. The resort is called Recreo, a new real-estate development on the Pacific Coast in the Guanacaste Province.
The vacation was a week in a villa for $6,000, split between six family members or friends, averaging just $1,000 per person. Because of the ailing economy, the deal has been revived through March. The only exception is a blackout over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The privately-owned villas are four and five star with Wi-Fi access and Direct TV. Built into the mountaintop, each has a pool and most overlook the ocean, which is a short distance away, and is easily accessible by private golf cart or mountain bike. This is an all-inclusive deal, with a private Cook providing all meals, and drinks, a full-time housekeeper, and all kinds of activities.
This time around, the resort has added a guided visit to neighboring Nicaragua for a day. It's a quick trip, but comprehensive, touring five historic cities and somehow, there's time for two meals before returning to Recreo.
Recreo is two hours from Liberia airport and transfers are included. But brace yourself, about a half-hour of the ride is on a bumpy dirt road
