Cultural Tour – Experience the local community and its unique trades when you visit a farm producing a wide variety of dairy products, fruits and vegetables, a fishing village with generations of local fisherman catching fresh fish daily, and the rare salt mines of Puerto Soley.
Panga Fishing Tour – Dive for fish with the local fisherman of El Jobo. This locals only boat tour lets you experience the traditional way of fishing – with spears in hand off the side of a "panga". You will be treated to fresh ceviche as a reward for all your hard work.
Kayaking – Sea kayaking is one of the most low impact ways to enjoy the beauty of the waters off of Playa Rejada or Manzanillo Beach, known as "fisherman's beach", only 5 minutes from recreo. Your guide will take you to the best spots for viewing wildlife above and below the surface.
Isla Boloños – A short boat ride will take you to this 14 hectare island, designated as a Bird Sanctuary. Located in Boloños Bay, this is the home and nesting grounds for Brown Pelicans, Frigate Birds, and the American Oystercatchers. They generally nest from December to March. The Brown Pelicans favor the treetops on the north side of the island, whereas the Frigate Birds favor the south side. For anyone who is physically fit, a three-hour hiking tour provides an opportunity to explore the entire island.
Nicaragua – Tour five historic cities, including Granada, which was founded in 1524 and is the oldest city in all of Latin America. Feed the monkeys on Monkey Island, dine in three rustic restaurants, watch the sulfur rise from the active volcano, Messiah, and purchase souvenirs while shopping at the Sioux Indian Market. Perfect for all ages, and those who love sightseeing.
Rincon de la Vieja – Set below the Rincon Volcano, this park is a geological wonder packed with adventure. Raft along the Rio Negro, zip line above the forest canopy, and take a horseback ride to visit the Spa. Take a mud bath and soak in the hot springs as you explore this natural wonder.
Africa Mia – A private Natural Reserve that showcases African animals including zebras, peacocks, flamingos and giraffes. Located in Liberia, Africa Mia is a half-day tour for all ages.
Safaris Corobici – A gentle river boat ride will take you down the river, allowing you to observe exotic plants and animals along the way. Birds such as aracaris, parrots, cuckoos, falcons can be observed. Monkeys, iguanas and otters are also observed during your tour. A half-day adventure on the river Corobici is a sightseeing experience that should not be missed.
Colorado River Rafting – Brave the class I and II rapids of the Colorodo River, on a two person inflatable canoe. Located in Cañas, this white water adventure is designed for beginners and those skilled in the sport.
Buena Vista – A full day of adventure for young children and adults. Experience horseback riding, zip lining across the forest canopy, sliding down the large waterslide, and relaxing in the mud baths.
Playa del Coco – For the serious fisherman, half and full-day deep-sea fishing tours can be arranged.
Golf – Tee times can be arranged at Papagayo Country Club Golf Course located near Liberia.
Tamarindo – Approximately three hours by car from recreo, Tamarindo is Costa Rica's renowned surfing mecca. Lesson can be arranged for beginner and intermediate surfers. And for experienced surfers, get ready for the ride of your life!
